Former Sundowns GM joins race for eSwatini football top job

Former Eswatini Football Association (EFA) chief executive officer Kenneth Makhanya has joined the race for the vacant CEO position at the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).

According to the Times of eSwatini, Makhanya, who is a former General Manager at Mamelodi Sundowns, is one of the 15 applicants who want to fill one of the most challenging jobs in the football leadership set-up.

Former referee Simanga Nhleko was the last man to hold the position and was shown the exit door before the end of his two-year contract. Nhleko successfully sued the PLE in court and was compensated over E600 000.

“Kenneth Makhanya has applied for the post and given his experience having worked as EFA CEO and also at South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, he is favourite for the position if the PLE knows what it wants,” the source told the publication.

The PLE advertised the two positions a week ago, being the CEO and Accountant. The PLE Accountant, Nhlanhla Dlamini, is expected to leave the organisation at the end of the month after serving his notice.
