African champions achieve highest ever Fifa World Ranking

Senegal have moved up two places to number 18 in the latest edition of the Fifa World Ranking to reach their highest ever position.

The rise comes after the Lions of Teranga won their first Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) after beating Egypt in the final at the Olembé stadium in(Cameroon) on Sunday.

Senegal are the highest-ranked African nation in the standings, while they also remain number one on the continent.

Gambia achieved the most significant jump in February as they ascended 25 places following their impressive run to the quarterfinals at Afcon.

 Equatorial Guinea, who also reached the last eight at Afcon, climbed 15 places and are now in the top 100.

Cameroon (38, + 12), who secured third place at Afcon, and runners-up Egypt (34, + 11) have made the most significant moves within the top 50.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana’s global standing remains unchanged at number 68 and 12 in the Caf Rankings.
