Fifa ban three Premier League-based Argentina players

Fifa has banned four Argentina players – three from the Premier League following September’s abandoned World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina.

The match in Sao Paolo was called off for not following international match protocols.

Brazilian rules at the time stated anyone that who had been in the UK 14 days prior to arriving in the country must quarantine for 14 days immediately upon arrival.

The world football governing body has ruled that the match will be replayed, with four players suspended and both teams fined. However, Fifa is yet to decide on a date and location.

Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero have been sanctioned and will miss the final two qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Giovani Lo Celso has also been banned.

Both sides have two games remaining but have already qualified for the finals in Qatar later this year.
