Benni sends warning to CAFCL group rivals after historic win
AmaZulu recorded their first-ever Caf Champions League group stage win after beating Horoya AC 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night.
With the victory, thanks to a solo strike by Luvuyo Memela, Usuthu jump to second place in Group B after two matches.
The club’s head coach Benni McCarthy has warned their Group B rivals that AmaZulu have adopted the mantra of playing to win, and not just add up numbers.
“I want to congratulate my players for a splendid performance Overall well deserved and I think we finally staked our claim that we’re not just AmaZulu who’s a novice in this competition and just here to fill the numbers,” said Benni.
“If you’re a football lover and you don’t like what AmaZulu did against Horoya then I don’t know, maybe you must change to winter Olympics or something.
“We know it’s extremely difficult and most won’t give us an opportunity, but I think we have as good of a chance to get out of the group stages and surprise a lot of people because there’s room for growth in this team.
“My team was very good, organised, didn’t give much away today and it’s a pity we didn’t score more than the one goal that we scored, I think there were opportunities,” concluded the Usuthu coach.
