ABC Motsepe League side arrives late for match

Free State ABC Motsepe League suspended match between Mathaithai FC and Super Eagles did not take place as the opposition team (Super Eagles) arrived late.

Both sides were supposed to play the remaining 12 minutes of their suspended game on March 3 due to non-working floodlights.

The showdown was stopped in the 78th minute with the Eagles leading by 3-1.

As a result, Mathaithai took a decision not to play the match in line with rule 28,1 which is further clarified by rules 28,2 and 28,3 of the NEC rules approved on the 25th of June 2016, as attached below.

Mathaithai has since cleared the air and set the record straight on what really transpired on the day.

“Super Eagles arrived late for the match once again which is against the competition rules attached,” read the Botshabelo-based side’s statement.

“It is misleading to go to social media and make unfound claims when Mathaithai even offered to play a friendly match after the game the night before.

“The rules are very clear on late arrivals unless there are contrary rules to those of the football body. Opponents know very well they were late and violated the said rules, late for the second time for that matter.

“There is no way we would arrive at 12:30 at the stadium, have a pre-match meal and prepare for the game as usual and then not play for no apparent reason.”
