Eastern Cape Motsepe League playoff tie abandoned

The Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League playoff encounter between Spear of the Nation and BCM Stars was abandoned due to a clash between supporters.

This comes after Spears fans hurled missiles at innocent football spectators who were present at the stadium.

The ugly scenes took place at Issac Wolfson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The showdown was called off after only 10 minutes in the second stanza, with the scoreline still 1-0 in favour of Spears.

BCM strongly condemned the unsporting behaviour shown in their first leg of the provincial playoffs.

“We are highly against the unsporting behaviour shown at our home game,” read the club’s official statement.

“On behalf of the chairman, management, technical team and the players of BCM Stars Football Club, we sincerely apologise for the misbehaviour by some of the fans of SA Spear of the Nation FC who hurled missiles at innocent football spectators who were present at the stadium.

“As BCM Stars we condemn this UNSPORTING behaviour with the strongest possible terms.

“We also apologise to those who sustained injuries during the commotion. We will keep you updated as we are expecting SAFA to give a ruling about this matter.”
