Netherlands vow to win World Cup in honor of Van Gaal

The Netherlands have made final vows to give Louis van Gaal ”a World Cup to never forget” following the Dutch mentor’s cancer diagnosis.

Van Gaal revealed that has prostate cancer in an interview with the Dutch TV programme Humberto on Sunday.

Liverpool defender and Netherlands skipper Virgil van Dijk has put it on record that they will do everything in their power to support their head coach and try to win the upcoming Fifa World Cup tournament due to take place in Qatar later this year.

“I messaged him after the interview – it definitely says a lot about him,” said Van Dijk.

“I said to him as well, he’s probably not that type of guy that needs a lot of sympathies, that’s how he is.

“I told him that we are definitely going to be there for him as a group whenever he needs it – and hopefully we can also make it, for him, a World Cup to never forget.”

The 70-year-old manager is in his third spell as Netherlands head coach, having led the side to third place at the 2014 World Cup and now to the 2022 Fifa World Cup competition.
