Stellies’ Barker aims at Chippa scalp
Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker wants to add to Chippa United’s woes when the two sides clash in a DStv Premiership encounter on Sunday at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London.
While he aims to complete a double on 13th placed Chilli Boys, who are not exactly safe from the chop, he knows they will be a tricky customer.
Stellies won the reverse encounter 2-1.
“They are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table. We were there last season; we know what it does; you have to fight for everything. It makes them a difficult opponent in that regard,” Barker told the media.
The 54-year-old warned his side to watch out for Chippa’s Cameroonian talisman Bienvenu Eva Nga who has netted 10 goals this season.
“He [Eva Nga] is on double figures; he’s been the main athlete. He’s great on the break, in transitions and on the counterattack,” Barker added.
“He runs in defences and has shown this season that he can take opportunities. He is a big threat.”
The Chilli Boys have collected 22 points, four clear from the basement boys Baroka, while Barker’s side is sixth with 36 points. Their motivation is to try and finish third and play Caf football next season.
Kick-off is at 15:00.
