Stellies coach plotting double over Chiefs

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker says his side is out to cause another upset at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday as they continue their objective of finishing in the top eight this season.

Earlier this season, Stellies shocked Amakhosi, defeating them 1-0 at home.

“We beat Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the season, so it will be a fantastic achievement for us if we get a double,” said Barker.

“Right now, the focus is on getting the three points, get equal to them on the log table to create a breathing space between ourselves and the eighth position because ultimately our main objective for the season in to finish in the top eight.”

The 54-year-old stated that consistency will be critical to help the Cape Town outfit finish the season in a better position on the log.

“The whole season, we’ve been consistently amongst the top four or six teams. It’s now our responsibility to finish the season strong with the remaining five matches left, starting with Kaizer Chiefs at home.”

“It’s a big game as a club, a big opportunity to embed the top eight position. With a victory against Chiefs, we can try to finish in the top four position and even dream of CAF position,” Barker added.

The Stellies and the Glamour Boys are sixth and fifth on the league table with 36 and 39 points respectively.
