Usuthu’s Mothwa eager to stop in-form Royal AM

There will be some significant bragging rights on offer for the winners of the KwaZulu Natal Derby, pitting AmaZulu and high flying Royal AM in the DStv Premiership on Sunday.

Usuthu shot-stopper Veli Mothwa wants to stop Royal AM’s incredible run when the two sides clash in a potentially explosive encounter set for the Chatsworth Stadium.

There is also a lot at stake for Brandon Truter as he would want to make it three out of three as he looks to impress management. Truter recently replaced Benni McCarthy on an interim basis and has won his first two matches on a 1-0 scoreline. He beat Baroka and Maritzburg United in his first two league games in charge.

Interestingly, Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Mothwa, anticipates a challenging, enjoyable match and has made it clear they want to win it.

“It’s going to be a big game, it’s another KZN Derby, and we just came back from the KZN Derby against Maritzburg [United]. After this game, we will see who is the giant of KZN,” Mothwa said.

“We hope to get maximum points, and we’re well prepared. These past two games we played were a motivation for us because we have been playing without a win. So these two games we played and won, I think, have given us that boost that we can beat Royal AM on Sunday.”

The South African international also predicted that there would be goals galore in the KZN Derby on Sunday.

“I think this will be a game of goals; we need to score more, they need to score less or don’t have to score us. So it’s going to be a good game, and for me, as a keeper, I need to keep my clean sheet record going. It’s going to be a tough one and an enjoyable game.”

A victory for Usuthu will see them cement their place in the top eight as they continue being optimistic about a top-four finish this season.
