Zimbabwe approach Zambia for Afcon qualifiers venue

Zimbabwe will play their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers home matches in Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Zambia.

Stadiums in Zimbabwe are currently not fit to host international matches.

The Warriors are in Group K along with Morocco, South Africa, and Liberia in qualifiers for next year’s tournament to be played in Ivory Coast from June 23-July 23.

They are scheduled to start their qualifiers on 30 May against Liberia ‘at home’. Subject to their ban being lifted by FIFA.

Zimbabwe Football Association Communications manager Xolisani Gwesela has confirmed the development to ZamFoot.

“We have until Friday next week to submit the venue that shall host our home matches for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers,” he was quoted by the publication.

“We approached Zambia since CAF condemned our Stadiums, and we wanted to use National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. Unfortunately, their National team will be using the same stadium for the qualifiers.

“The available stadium is Levy Mwanawasa in Copperbelt, 316KM from Lusaka. From the look of things, if our suspension is lifted, we are most likely going to use Levy Mwanawasa Stadium for our home matches,” said Gwesela.
