Lentjies plotting an upset against high-flying City

Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies is optimistic that his side can get maximum points against red-hot Cape Town City to boost their chances of relegation when they go head-to-head in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.

However, Lentjies is aware of the Citizens’ threat, who are unbeaten in 2022 as they continue their pursuit of securing a spot to play in African competitions next season. Therefore, they are anticipating a tricky tie.

“The mood in the camp is good. We are looking forward to continuing with the momentum. We are playing a team that hasn’t lost this year, but we are more capable of getting three points. The mood is good,” Lentjies said.

The former Chilli Boys skipper revealed that controlling the game will be the key to getting the much-needed three points.

“We want to focus on how we do it, not too much on them, then we take it from there. We need to control the game’s momentum, then we going to get the three points,” Lentjies added.

“Not defensive like we did against Pirates, but we want to play a complete game. We have to sit deep because they are a ball playing team; certain times play on the break, and others press higher.”

The 37-year-old admitted that the team is not safe yet from being relegated. However, he is optimistic they will survive.

“We are not out of danger yet; four games left to play. Let’s focus on the game. After the results of yesterday, there is more pressure. The guys are cool under pressure, so we’ll take it.”

The Chilli Boys are 12th on the DStv Premiership log with 26 points. Kick-off at Nelson Mandela Bay is at 17:00.
