Elneny signs new contract with Arsenal

Arsenal have announced the contract extension of midfielder Mohamed Elneny until June 2023 with option for further season.

The Egyptian international has been a instrumental player for the Gunners squad, having joined them from Basel back in 2016.

He has made 147 appearances, found the back of the net on five occasions and weighed in 10 assists in the process.

The 29-year-old became the first Egyptian to play for the club and he was also part of the team that won the FA Community Shield in 2017 and 2020, and helped the side to reach the 2018/19 Uefa Europa League Final in Baku.

Mo, as he’s affectionately known, has made 93 appearances for the Pharoahs.

“I love this club and I feel like part of this family,” Mo said on signing his new contract.

“I want to continue at this amazing club and amazing family and I’m very happy and very excited for the future.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, added: “Mo is a really important part of the team. He brings endless energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the team and is loved by everyone.”

“He’s an important player for us on and off the pitch, a real role model to our younger players and I’m delighted he’s staying.”
