Pirates mean business ahead of 2022/23 season
Orlando Pirates mean business and look set to get the majority of their transfer business done as early as possible. In fact, the Buccaneers have started making movements in the transfer market ahead of the 2022/23 season.
They have had an underwhelming season, with the silver lining being losing finalists in the Caf Confederation Cup final. Ahead of next season, the Soweto giants have moved swiftly to capture the signatures of Cameroonian forward Bienvenu Eva Nga and teenage sensation Azola Matrose.
Everything points to the two playing their football at the Buccaneers next season despite interest from a few other clubs.
The Soweto giants are strengthening their squad with Baroka’s Evidence Makgopa also set to join them after spending last season on loan at the Limpopo side. They signed Makgopa last season before loaning him back to Bakgaka.
The former Bidvest Wits forward, Nga, scored 10 goals in the just-ended season but was unhappy at the Gqeberha side. The club could have exercised their one-year option but opted to let go of him.
On the other hand, 19-year-old Matrose enjoyed a breakthrough season, making 14 appearances. The wide attacker, nicknamed ‘Memela’, started his football career at Real Madrid FC. He joined the Chilli Boys last season on a long term deal and looks likely to play his football at the Soweto giants next season.
Last season, the Buccaneers made some prudent signings, with Bandile Shandu and Goodman Mosele excelling for Skull & Crossbones. They will be hoping the incoming trio hits the ground running.
