We can’t be cry-babies, admits Arrows’ Vilakazi

Lamontville Golden Arrows co-coach Vusi Vilakazi insists they can’t be cry-babies after their shock defeat to Richards Bay and wants to quickly forget about the weekend setback.

Abafana Bes’thende were stunned by the newly promoted Richards Bay on Saturday, losing their first home game by 2-0 at Princess Magogo Stadium.

They went into the game so confident they would win over newly promoted neighbours Richards Bay. As much as Vilakazi admitted that there was so much work to be done, he did not want to dwell on much as he wanted to forget about it and focus on their next two tasks away from home against two Limpopo sides.

“We still have to work hard, this is water under the bridge, so we have to focus on our next two games, Sekhukhune and Marumo Gallants. We can’t be cry-babies. We have to be strong. We admit that we didn’t have a good start.

“We will have to bounce back, and we’ve targeted 15 points in five games, but unfortunately, we lost our first game, now we have to focus on the next one, we will fight till the end,” Vilakazi told the media.
Arrows lost Nkosinathi Sibisi to Orlando Pirates, a player that was a rock on their defence and leader on and off the field.

Based on their performance on Saturday, the absence of Sibisi was notable with indications that leadership is needed on the pitch, but Vilakazi feels there have enough leaders.
“No, no, we’ve got players who can lead, Sibisi was one of our players, yes a captain but that doesn’t mean we are struggling because is no longer with us. In the last six games of last season, we did well without him, and there were no questions about leadership, so I don’t think it’s about lack of leadership.”
With the man nicknamed ‘Kanu’ targeting 12 points from their next four games, he is aware his charges will have to double their efforts in the coming games.

They have a trip to Limpopo for two matches against Babina Noko and Gallants. Next up will be TS Galaxy and AmaZulu FC at home.
