TS Galaxy coach Ramovic reveals who he thinks will dethrone Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have been dominating South African football for years now, with their rivals failing to keep up.

However, TS Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic believes that could all come to an in the 2022/23 season.

The Tshwane giants won all the trophies on offer last campaign, including the DStv Premiership title, which was their fifth in a row.

And in the new season, Sundowns have had a lukewarm start with two defeats already in their opening eight league matches.

But they are at the summit of the log standings with 16 points, two ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates.

RAMOVIC BACKS PIRATES…

Ramovic has tipped the Soweto giants, Pirates, to challenge defending champions Sundowns in the DStv Premiership title chase.

On Saturday, his Galaxy side lost 2-0 to Pirates at Orlando Stadium. It was a back-to-back defeat for the Rockets after suffering a 1-0 loss to Cape Town City last weekend.

The German tactician shares the same sentiments as SuperSport United’s Gavin Hunt as he has suggested that Pirates can dethrone Sundowns and win the league this season.

“Look, we played against one of the best teams in South Africa. Pirates have a lot of quality in their squad,” Ramovic told the media.

“I think this year the league will be interesting because if you look at the table, if you win two games, you are up, and if you lose, you are in trouble.”

Pirates have been playing a mouth-watering brand of football under the new coach José Riveiro, and many have reckoned that Pirates is the only outfit that can push Sundowns all the way, given the quality of personnel in their squad.

“So yes [ Pirates can challenge for league honours],” declared the Galaxy mentor.

“The season will be really exciting, and I’m sure that three or four teams will try to challenge Sundowns this season.”
