Percy Tau’s teammate fined for missing Al Ahly penalty

Percy Tau’s teammate at Al Ahly has been fined for missing a penalty in last Friday’s game against Future FC.

A statement from Al Ahly says its management has fined Mohamed Magdy Afsha for fluffing the penalty in the Egyptian Premier League game.

Al Ahly are bitter that Afsha took the penalty when he knew that such responsibilities are for Ali Ma’aloul who was around.

Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller has since told KingFut.com that he did not understand why Afsha took the penalty.

“Ali Ma’aloul is our penalty taker. I don’t know why Mohamed Magdy took the penalty instead,” the Swiss coach is quoted saying.

The playmaker Afsha’s missed penalty cost Al Ahly maximum points.

The game ended one-all and saw Al Ahly four-point cushion at the top shrinking to just two points.

The leaders, Al Ahly, are under pressure to stay clear of holders Zamalek who are trailing by the two points.

It has since transpired that Afsha is desperate to score a goal this season as he has fired blanks all season in seven games.

However, his penalty miss may prove costly following the fine whose actual amount has been kept under wraps.

AL AHLY MISSING PERCY TAU’S SERVICES

Percy Tau watched the game from the sidelines as he suffered an injury last week.

Percy Tau had, before getting injured, scored in back-to-back games taking Al Ahly winning streak to six games.

However, in the absence of the Bafana star Percy Tau Al Ahly have been struggling to score more goals.

AL AHLY LEFT IT LATE AGAINST PHARCO FC

The record 10-time former CAF Champions League winners have since recovered from the one-all draw against Future.

Al Ahly left it late to beat Pharco FC 2-1 in a league match played on Tuesday evening.

However, the manner in which the Reds won the match should be a concern to Koller.

The Club of the Century needed Mohamed Sherif’s goal in added time to win the game.

Earlier, Ahmed Abdelkader had given Al Ahly the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Six minutes later, Pharco levelled matters through Ahmed Sherif’s near-post finish.
