Caf have announced the dates and times for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) due to take place in Cote d’Ivoire and the Fifa World Cup African Qualifiers Third Round scheduled for Qatar 2022.
The 2023 Afcon Preliminary Round draw will be conducted in Douala on Friday, 21 January at 17:00 (SA time).
Meanwhile, the 2022 World Cup African Qualifiers draw will take place on Saturday, 22 January also at 17:00 (SA time) at the above-mentioned venue.
The 2023 Afcon preliminaries
The Preliminary Round will see the 12 least ranked teams divided into two streams, with the six highest-ranked teams facing the six least ranked teams. Thereafter, the six aggregate winners will join the 42 highest ranked teams into the Group Stage of the qualifiers.
Level 1: Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Gambia, South Sudan, Mauritius
Level 2: Chad, Sao Tome & Principe, Djibouti, Somalia, Seychelles, Eritrea

The 10 qualified teams will be divided into two groups according to their Fifa ranking, published in November 2021.
The five highest-ranked teams will lock horns with the five least ranked teams, with the five aggregate winners booking their spots to the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
Level 1: Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Nigeria
Level 2: Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali and DR Congo
