Sundowns star set to miss Richards Bay clash

Mamelodi Sundowns star is set to miss the club’s DStv Premiership clash against Richards Bay FC on Tuesday afternoon.

Kickoff at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is at 3pm.

Masandawana only had a day to rest, regroup and prepare for the match after landing in the country on Monday morning from Algeria.

The Tshwane giants displayed a masterclass over the weekend against CR Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League quarter-final, first leg winning 4-1.

TEBOHO MOKOENA SUSPENDED

Teboho Mokwena will be a notable absentee, as the midfielder will be serving a one-match ban after accumulating four yellow cards in the domestic competitions.

The talented midfielder has been disciplined throughout the season. His first booking was back in October 2022 against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 first leg.

Mokoena went on to be booked twice in the league against Marumo Gallants and Chippa United.

His latest and fourth booking that resulted in suspension was against in-form Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final encounter.

The Bafana international has been instrumental for the Sundowns this season, bossing the midfield. Coach Rulani Mokwena has deployed Mokwena in two different positions this campaign: a six and an eight.

Mokoena has played 34 matches in all competitions. He has scored two goals and provided two assists.

For his leadership qualities on the pitch, he has captained the team on a number of occasions.

Coach Mokwena once made a bold claim about Mokoena saying, he’s one of the best midfielders in Africa with the player himself stating that he knows that he is a “big player”.

WHO CAN REPLACE MOKOENA?

Mokoena’s suspension will afford other midfielders with an opportunity to play and showcase their skills on the field.

The midfielders who are itching for some action include Sipho Mbule, Lesedi Kapinga, Bradley Ralani, Sphelele Mkhulise and Haashim Domingo.
