Marc van Heerden completes UEFA B coaching license

Recently retired PSL defender Marc van Heerden has completed his UEFA B Coaching License, setting the stage for his next chapter in football.

Van Heerden decided to hang his boots last month, in August, ending his 20-year-long playing career as a professional footballer.

During his playing days, the defender had stints with many PSL teams. This includes the likes of the University of Pretoria [AmaTuks], Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu FC, Cape Town City FC, Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United.

Van Heerden was a natural left-back. But he was able to shift positions and play as a centre-back depending on the coach’s tactics and game plan.

Upon announcing his retirement from playing football, the 36-year-old revealed that he will be venturing into coaching. This was one of the reasons why he decided to call it quits on playing football.

Van Heerden shared the good news on Tuesday, posting on social media that he’s now a UEFA B Coaching License holder after completing the course with the Scottish Football Association.

“I am honoured and excited to announce I have successfully completed my UEFA B license through the Scottish FA,” Van Heerden posted on his official X [Twitter] account.

“Going from professional playing into the coaching world takes a lot of change of perspective and understanding.

“A massive thank you must be given to Dougie Anderson, Liam Fox, Mixu Paatelainen, Callum Davidson and Richie Wilson for the guidance, knowledge and expertise shown throughout the course. The growth I have made in the last year has been immense.”

Now that Van Heerden has completed the UEFA B coaching license, his focus will shift to completing the UEFA A Coaching License in due course.
