How Zambia’s Daka feels about his EPL progress

Chipolopolo Zambia striker Patson Daka is pleased with his prolific form in Leicester City’s EPL pre-season matches.

On Saturday, Patson scored in Leicester’s 3-1 away win over Derby County to pick up his third goal in as many matches from four pre-season games.

Daka told Leicester City TV that it was great to finally play the full 90 minutes describing it as a significant step forward.

“It is always a great feeling. It builds your confidence as a player, and I was just happy I was on the score sheet,” Patson said.

“I have definitely set targets both long and short-term, so for now, I am focusing on the short-term targets that I have.”

The 23-year-old striker is entering his second season with Leicester, where he scored five league goals last term following his move from Austrian champions RB Salzburg.

“And I think during this pre-season, I am going step-by-step, and I think looking at the goals that I have set, I am getting there each and every day, and I am very happy with the way things are going,” Patson said.

Leicester has one more pre-season fixture at home on July 31 against Spanish club Sevilla. After that, it is the start of business for Patson and Co with their EPL opener on August 7 at home against Brentford.

Brighton midfielder and Chipolopolo captain Enock Mwepu came on in the 46th minute for his club in a 2-1 pre-season away win over Reading on Saturday. His EPL season will also start on August 7 with a visit to Manchester United.

Across the border north in Scotland, striker Fashion Sakala got his first friendly start during the Rangers’ final pre-season fixture on Sunday in a 3-2 home win over Queen’s Park.

Fashion, though, was not on target, and he wraps up the pre-season without a goal from three games. In the Scottish second tier, defender Frankie Musonda played the full 90 minutes for his new club Ayr United during Saturday’s 1-0 League Cup defeat at St Johnstone.

Rangers and Ayr kick off their Scottish league campaigns on July 30, away to Livingstone and at home to Arbroath, respectively.
