Philippe Coutinho could be making a return to the Premier League as Aston Villa have reportedly approached Spanish giants Barcelona over a deal to sign the Brazilian on loan for the remainder of the season.

Villa are one of several clubs after Coutinho’s signature as the list also includes Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham.

Keen to represent Brazil at the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, Coutinho is seeking a loan move at a club where he will play regularly.

According to reports, the Brazilian’s wage demands could be too much for Villa, but the club is leading the race with head coach Steven Gerrard is a big fan of Coutinho, having played with him at Liverpool for almost three years.

Coutinho has struggled to flourish t Barcelona since joining the club from Liverpool four years ago with 28 goals in 105 games for the Spanish side.

Villa look to sign the 29-year-old winger on a six-month loan deal, and Barca are said to be keen to offload Coutinho to make space for new signing Ferran Torres.

The creative winger would be more like a short-term replacement of Jack Grealish, who penned a deal with Manchester City at the start of the season.
