Aubameyang retires from international football

Barcelona goal poacher Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has retired from international football with immediate effect, after playing for the Gabonese national team for 13 years.

The Gabon Federation confirmed the news on Wednesday.

The federation stated that it received a letter from the 32-year-old frontman on Tuesday informing them of his decision.

Aubameyang managed to find the back of the net on 30 occasions in 72 appearances for the Panthers before hanging his boots.

He is currently Gabon’s all-time leading goalscorer with those 30 goals.

“I hope to have made him proud by wearing our colours,” read parts of Aubameyang’s letter where he thanked the Gabonese people, his coaches, teammates and his father, who also played for Gabon in the 1980s and 90s.
