With just a few days to go before the DStv Compact Cup officially kicks off, the stage is perfectly set for sixteen (16) youngsters of the DStv Diski Challenge to finally showcase their talent at an even bigger platform.

As part of DStv’s innovative approach to the competition, fans were invited to vote for at least four DStv Diski Challenge players for each of the regional squads that were officially unveiled by the Premier Soccer League on Wednesday, 05 January 2022.

As excitement to the DStv Compact Cup continues to build up, Warriors FC, comprising of stars from Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows as well as TS Galaxy, will be hoping Mduduzi Shabalala’s sterling performances in this season’s DStv Diski Challenge will be reciprocated during the tournament.

The high-in-confidence Shabalala has been quite impressive for Amakhosi’s Diski Challenge side, displaying quality performances that have earned him u17 national team call-ups and being named player of the tournament at the 2020 COSAFA U20 youth tournament.

From the twelve matches played so far this season, the skilful playmaker has managed to find the back of the net seven times which includes a hattrick he scored over the weekend against Stellenbosch United.

Coastal United FC, who comprise of PSL stars from Cape Town City, Stellenbosch United, Chippa United as well as Baroka FC have the exciting Thulani Mini in their arsenal.

The 19-year-old Chippa United forward is currently enjoying a rich vein of form that has already earned him an appearance in the DStv Premiership with United. Not only has Mini been key in instigating attacks as a playmaker, but the nippy midfielder also has six goals to his name and is proving to be a good future prospect for the Chilli Boys.

Looking at Dinaledi FC, who represent the second Inland stream which comprises of players from Supersport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Marumo Gallants as well as Sekhukhune United FC, fans have the option of voting in Kabelo Moagi (Mamelodi Sundowns), Sibusiso Nkosi (Marumo Gallants), Ryan Manning (Supersport Utd) as well as Sanele Manxele (Sekhukhune United FC).

While all four have been equally impressive in the opening stages of the Diski Challenge season, Gallants’ Nkosi will be top of mind for fans who want to see goals from Dinaledi.

The speedy forward has five goals to his name and if his recent performances are anything to go by, Dinaledi may have a lethal goal poacher in the young Nkosi. He was also on the scoresheet for his senior side when they played AS Vita in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Amabutho FC, represented by AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United and Royal AM carry the pride of the coast and fans will be curious to see what their Diski Challenge stars have to offer for their region.

Samukelo Mzolo (Golden Arrows), Lindokuhle Zungu (AmaZulu), Siphesihle Ngcobo (Maritzburg United) as well as Tshepo Moeketsi of Royal AM are the four Diski Challenge players looking to make a name for themselves through the DStv Compact Cup.

All four have rightfully earned their votes from the fans. However, a lot of attention will be on the sharp-shooting Mzolo, who is also proving to be a goal-poacher for Abafana Bas’thende’s Diski Challenge side.

The 18-year-old striker is sitting on five goals and will be hoping to use this competition to knock on the senior side’s door as he continues to make a name for himself.
