Eriksen set to join Brentford

Christian Eriksen is reportedly close to signing a short-term deal with Premier League side Brentford despite suffering a cardiac arrest seven months back with an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) fitted to his heart.

Eriksen has been a free agent after parting ways with Italian giants Inter Milan as the Serie A rule book doesn’t allow him to play with the ICD.

According to 90min.com, Eriksen is close to putting pen to paper on a six-month deal with a medical planned for early next week.

Eriksen was playing for Denmark at the Euro 2020 when he suffered a cardiac arrest, and it is said that Brentford coach Thomas Frank, who coached Eriksen at Denmark’s youth teams, is eager to sign the attacker.

However, given that he suffered a cardiac arrest, the medical process Eriksen will have to go through will be more complicated as the Football Association (FA) would not conduct its own cardiology report. Still, it would review the signing club’s cardiological assessment before giving the go-ahead, as per Sky Sports.

“The FA would expect the club-appointed cardiologist to be a member of their Cardiac Consensus Panel, which is chaired by Dr Sanjay Sharma – Eriksen’s former doctor at Tottenham.”
