Ex-Ahly assistant coach says Percy Tau’s form has gotten worse

Former Al Ahly assistant coach David Sesa has defended coach Pitso Mosimane’s performance with the Egyptian giants but believes his compatriot Percy Tau’s form has ‘gotten worse.’

Speaking to Egyptian sports website KingFut, Sesa said Tau and Mozambican Luis Miquissone’s performances were not at the level required for the deposed CAF Champions League holders.

“Tau was very good in Belgium, but right now, his performance has gotten worse and he’s not on the level to play for Al Ahly. Miquissone is not performing well too, the two players are not on Al Ahly level right now,” he is quoted saying.

Sesa analysed Mosimane, Tau, Miquissone and other players particularly in the 2-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League final days ago.

“Al Ahly didn’t play well against Wydad. Despite having a lot of good players, they weren’t having a good game,” he added.

“Mosimane is a good coach, and he won two CAF Champions League titles with the team. Compared to Weiler, Mosimane’s playstyle is different, when I worked with Weiler we were more focused on attacking and scoring more goals.”

Other Al Ahly former players have also been echoing Sesa’s remarks on the former Sundowns star Tau who also had a stint with Brighton and Hove Albion in England and loan spells in Belgium.

On the other hand, Mosimane enjoyed a perfect start to his reign with Al Ahly, winning CAF Champions League titles back-to-back but now the wheels have come off culminating in the loss in the final to Wydad.

The Cairo giants’ displays in the Egyptian Premier League, whose title Mosimane is yet to win since his switch from Sundowns two seasons ago, have been suspect.

Some Al Ahly legends have been baying for Mosimane’s blood but he insists he will right the wrongs and get the team back on the track with his target now on winning the elusive domestic title.

“Al Ahly is a team that wants to win every match. I’ve never seen a team that wants to win every match, hence there’s no coach that lasts because winning is what they want,” Mosimane said.
