Ex-Chiefs striker gives thumbs up to Zwane appointment

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Kingston Nkatha believes the club made the right call to hand over the reins to Arthur Zwane on a three-year deal and has called on Amakhosi’s management to fully back him.

Zwane was recently appointed Chiefs coach with Dillon Sheppard assisting him and Nkatha is convinced the move will yield results.

“They (Chiefs) need to support him. He knows Kaizer Chiefs. He played for Kaizer Chiefs and coached the Juniors, and now he is there coaching the senior team, so sometimes you need people like that who know the structure of the team, so with proper support, I don’t think he will fail.”

The former Zimbabwe international maintains he never took personally the heavy criticism he received from fans during his stay with the Soweto giants.

Nkatha spent three seasons at Amakhosi and was part of the squad that won the League title during the 2012/13 season.

The 36-year-old, who is involved in football development alongside a fellow ex-Chiefs player Nhlanhla Kubheka in Johannesburg, says he cherishes every moment at the Soweto giants.

“You find ups and downs in each and every club you play in. You need to embrace them. You need to focus because you are there to work and help the team win trophies,” Nkatha told FARPost during his visit to Limpopo on Sunday.

“It was a good journey for me. I won’t lie to you. I enjoyed my football, and I cherish every moment that I played for Chiefs.

“They (fans’ criticism) didn’t hurt me. Fans want players to do well for the team regardless of who they are. When you are in that team, especially Chiefs, you need to perform, and when you are performing, they are happy, but now that you are not performing, it’s a problem,” he said.

“So I don’t think there was bad blood between the supporters and I. I love Kaizer Chiefs, and I love their supporters.”
