Ghanaian duo to return to Sekhukhune after unsuccessful Swallows loan

The Ghanaian duo of Habib Mohammed and Abdul Fatawu Safiu are set to return to their parent club Sekhukhune United after an unsuccessful loan stint at Swallows FC.

Babina Noko signed the duo during the January transfer window but could not register them because they had exhausted the foreign quota. The club then loaned them out to The Birds hoping that they would get game time.

However, the two were not registered and spent six months on the sidelines without competitive football.

Safiu, who plays as a forward, last featured for Swedish third-tier outfit FC Trollhattan, where he had signed a deal until December 2023, while defender-cum-midfielder Mohammed, who penned a three-year contract with Sekhukhune, is a former Asante Kotoko player.

“We didn’t have space, so we loaned them out. Unfortunately, Swallows were unable to register them. But we will have them back and assess them ahead of the new season,” a club source.

Sekhukhune released 14 players last week and will be looking to beef the squad ahead of the new season. The club is on the verge of signing a Congolese defender and former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi.
