Morocco book place in Afcon quarterfinals

Morocco came back from a goal down to beat Malawi 2-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) round of 16 match at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Cameroon, on Tuesday night.

The result means Morocco are through to the quarterfinals of the competition, while Malawi head back home after reaching the knockout stage of Africa’s showpiece for the first time.

Malawi and Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango scored a breath-taking goal from range inside the first 10 minutes to put the Flames ahead.

Morocco, who dominated the game, pushed for an equaliser and hit the crossbar twice before making it 1-1 through En Nesyri on the stroke of halftime.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) right-back Achraf Hakimi scored the winning goal, a beauty of a free-kick from way out to ensure Morocco progress to the next round.
