Downs officially crowned DStv Prem champions

Mamelodi Sundowns have won a record-extending 12th Premier Soccer League title after defeating Royal AM 3-2 at Chatsworth Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The Brazilians looked bright in the early stages of the showpiece as they attacked in numbers.

Gaston Sirino opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the showdown to put Bafana Ba Style in front.

John Maduka‘s side improved as the half wore on, and came close to levelling the matters, however, their efforts were fruitless.

A sensational second half from Downs earned them another goal in the 48th minute of the contest through Thabiso Kutumela.

The high flying Masandawana did not stop there as Peter Shalulile scored his 23rd goal of the season in the 61st minute.

However, the unfazed KwaZulu-Natal side found the back of the net eight minutes after the restart courtesy of Victor Letsoalo.

Thwihli Thwahla worked themselves downfield, piling pressure on the visitors which led to another goal in the 76th minute from Mokete Mogaila.

In the end, it was Sundowns who claimed all three points to finish the season on 65 points after 30 games.
