Afcon Wrap: Burkina Faso coach not happy despite booking knockout berth

Despite sealing a place in the round of 16 at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) following a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia on Monday night, Burkina Faso coach Kamou Malo feels his troops could have performed better and more work is required from them.

Cyrille Bayala found the back of the net after being out through on goal by Adama Guira in the first half in the Stallions’ last Group A match staged at Stade Omnisports de Bafoussam.

Malo’s men finished in second place, behind Cameroon with four points after three matches.

“We are happy to qualify, but we have to change a lot because we missed many chances today. We have to draw our lessons from the group stage,” said Malo.

“And to look at our tactics as I know it will be different in our next matches. It was not an easy group, but I am glad we surmounted the challenges and now we can plan once again. We are ready to play any opponents in the next round.”
