AFCON WRAP: Senegal, Morocco, seal late victory

Only four goals were scored on matchday two of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), with Senegal and Morocco opening their respective campaigns on a positive note.

In the first match of the day on Monday at Kouekong Stadium, Bafoussam in Cameroon, Senegal, were made to work hard for their win by a resilient Zimbabwe outfit.

Sadio Mane converted a penalty in the dying minutes of the game to ensure that the Teranga Lions clinch the three points in their opening Group B encounter.

In their Group C opener, the Atlas Lions also registered a narrow 1-0 win over Ghana at Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaoundé.

It was Sofiane Boufal’s 82nd-minute strike that handed Morocco the win.

The defeat means that Ghana have won one of their last five opening group games at Africa’s showpiece.

In the other Group B match, Guinea edged past Malawi in Bafoussam to get off to a winning start.

Issiaga Sylla netted the only goal of the game in the 35th minute.

Meanwhile, in the final game of matchday two, Gabon beat Afcon debutants Comoros 1-0, courtesy of a first-half goal by Aaron-Salem Boupendza.
