Al Aly has reportedly offered Pitso Mosimane a vastly improved contract, but he is yet to sign it amid interest from Qatar.
The South African coach is into the final six months of his current deal, and Qatar Stars League side Al-Rayyan SC are said to be monitoring the contractual situation of Mosimane at the Egyptian powerhouse club.
Since he arrived in 2020 at Ahly, Mosimane has won five trophies, including back-to-back Caf Champions League titles and two consecutive Caf Super Cups. He also led the club to a third-place finish at the Fifa World Cup.
And despite proving his worth at Ahly, the former Bafana Bafana coach hasn’t reached an agreement with the club over a new deal.
According to former Egypt goalkeeper and Al Ahly legend Ahmed Shobeir, negotiations are still ongoing between Mosimane’s agent Moira Thlagale and the club.
“Al Ahly made Mosimane a good deal; I believe that it’s now up to him. He previously said that he wants to keep the position,” said Shobeir, as quoted by Kingfut.com.
“I think it’s true that Mosimane wants to stay in Al Ahly. The club’s offer is between $160,000 and $165,000 [approximately R2.5 million per month] with a three-month penalty clause.”
Thlagale, who is also Pitso’s wife, landed in Cairo about two weeks ago to negotiate with the African champions, but it is said that she has already left the country.
Mosimane will look to clinch third place – bronze medal once again at the Club World Cup when his men take on Saudi side Al-Hilal on Friday.
