Aubameyang returns to training with Gabon

Arsenal and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back in training ahead of his country’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) encounter against Ghana on Friday following a negative Covid-19 test.

Aubameyang had tested positive last week and missed Gabon’s opening Afcon game against Comoros on Monday. Despite the hitman’s absence, Gabon sealed a 1-0 victory.

The 32-year-old is out of favour at Arsenal and was stripped of the captaincy last month.

“After such a period, staying locked up is not easy. So, we’re happy to be back in training and in the squad,” said Aubameyang.

“I had the opportunity to still be able to work in my room. I was entitled to a bike and to do the treadmill. So, I tried physically to keep as much form as possible; of course, it won’t be easy because it’s not the rhythm of the match and of training, but we will do with it.

“I’m happy to have found them. I was already very happy that the guys did the job in the first game. We are all proud of them. Now it’s up to me to level up and bring everything I can to the group.”
