Benjamin Mendy faces additional rape charge

Manchester City and France defender Benjamin Mendy appeared in court on Wednesday to face a new allegation of attempted rape.

Mendy now faces nine charges in all, including seven counts of rape involving six alleged victims.

The 27-year-old will stand trial on 25 July 2022.

The leftback, who remains suspended by the club, was released from prison on bail on 7 January.

He had been in custody for 134 days, since first being arrested and charged on 26 August 2021.

The full bail conditions were not disclosed in open court, but Mendy was told he must live at his home address, surrender his passport and refrain from contacting complainants.
