Downs co-coaches and Jali scoop monthly PSL awards for December

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coaches Rhulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi have walked away with a third consecutive DStv Premiership Coach of the Month award as they won the December 2021 prize.

Andile Jali of Sundowns won the Player of the Month award, while Kaizer Chiefs’ Nkosingiphile Ngcobo saw his brilliant strike against Maritzburg United voted Goal of the Month (by the fans).

Mokwena and Mngqithi led the Tshwane giants to four wins and two draws in seven games while conceding seven goals and scoring 12 times to end December 14 points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

Sundowns midfielder Jali beat his teammate Peter Shalulile, Kwame Peprah of Orlando Pirates, Chippa United’s Eva Nga and Royal AM forward Victor Letsoalo to the Player of the Month award after his impressive performances – bossing the club’s midfield.

“Jali was outstanding in December. He was a marvel to watch as he bossed the Sundowns’ midfield. His experience has been invaluable during a loaded period in December. The manner in which he broke down opponents’ attacks and in turn start build-ups to Sundowns attacks, which on some occasions led to goals, has been very impressive,” said the Premier Soccer League (PSL) judging panel.

The panel consists of Baba Mthethwa (convenor, SuperSport), Mpho Letsholonyane (SuperSport), Tshililo Nelufule (Phalaphala FM), Jonty Mark (Citizen), Zakhele Xaba (Isolezwe), Reggie Ndlovu (SuperSport).

Mngqithi, Mokwena and Jali and Ngcobo will each receive a trophy and R7 000.
