Aston Villa have confirmed that Egypt midfielder Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet’s will spend the rest of the season on loan at Turkish Super Lig side İstanbul Başakşehir.
With the arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona last month, Trezeguet has been relegated to the bench under coach Steven Gerrard.
The 27-year-old has only made a single appearance since making a return from a long-term knee injury in December.
At Villa, he made 64 appearances, netting crucial goals for the club in his maiden campaign in 2019/20 as they reached the Carabao Cup final and maintained their Premier League status.
“Trézéguet suffered a lengthy injury lay-off in 2021 but returned to action and will now look to get valuable game time over the second half of this season.
“He joins a Başakşehir side who are currently in fifth place in Turkey’s Süper Lig. Good luck, Trézéguet.”
