New Sundowns signing expected to arrive on Tuesday

Mamelodi Sundowns latest acquisition Erwin Saavedra was expected to have touched down in South Africa in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

This was revealed by co-coach Rhulani Mokwena in a press briefing following the 2-0 against Chippa United on Monday night.

The Bolivian international is believed to have signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Masandawana.

“Saavedra as you all know played for Bolivia in the qualifiers on Tuesday, he then had to work with regards to getting all the necessary travel documents including covid tests. He left Bolivia, went to Peru, from Peru he went to the Netherlands so we are talking about plus-minus more than 20 hours in transit travelling to South Africa,” said Mokwena.

“He arrives very late early hours tomorrow (Tuesday) so when we resume for training on Wednesday he would just arrive and only put his feet down on South African land.

“But we are excited, hopefully, he will join us by Thursday. We will induct him into the club, we will work with regards to all the other medical procedures that need to be done and familiarize him with our training, the squad and the processes that happen with regard to our preparations and we will take it from there,” he said.

“Hopefully we can incorporate him into the matchday squad as quickly as possible, but we are very patient and excited. This is not just big for Mamelodi Sundowns but it’s big for South African football.”
