Not winning Champions League wouldn’t be a failure – Mngqithi

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has reiterated the importance of the cub winning their second CAF Champions League title.

Masandawana begins their Champions League Group A journey on Friday when they host Sudanese giants Al Hilal at Bafokeng Stadium Royal in Rustenburg.

The South African Champions were eliminated in the quarterfinal stage in the last two editions of Africa’s biggest football competitions.

When asked if he would consider it a failure if the club does not win the 2022 edition, Mngqithi said the club understands what is at stake.

“I would not regard not winning the Champions League as a failure but it’s something that I would not want to experience,” he told the media ahead of the match.

“I would love to see Sundowns winning the Champions League. The players would love to see it, the President, the Chairman, the board and everyone. So, we understand what is at stake. We also know it is a very long road, we have to try to trade carefully.”

The match will start at 18:00.
