Sudan coach confident of beating Egypt

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Cameroon has seen several big guns suffer shock defeats, and Sudan coach Burhan Tia has backed his troops to beat favourites Egypt.

Sudan will tackle Egypt this evening (21:00) at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaoundé, in their final Group D clash.

Despite occupying fourth place in the group after a draw and a defeat, Falcons of Jediane still stand a chance of advancing the round of 16. They need to beat Egypt, and coach Tia has shown faith in his men as he believes they can upset the former African Champions.

“We respect Egypt, they have one of the strongest teams in the continent, but we will play to win,” said Tia.

“Our team has a lot of high-quality players. This tournament is a great chance for them to present themselves. We have the motive to win. We will lose Salah Nimr’s services against Egypt, but we have ambitious players who will take the chance to prove their worth.

“Everything is possible in football, we might lose or tie, but we will play to win. I know Egypt national team players capabilities, but I trust my players, and I believe they have what it takes to advance further in the tournament.”

Equatorial Guinea pulled off one of the great Afcon upsets as they beat defending champions Algeria 1-0 most recently, while Ghana lost 3-2 against Comoros on Tuesday.
