Wonder Nhleko makes retirement U-turn

Former Black Leopards and Platinum Stars winger Wonder Nhleko is set to make a dramatic return to playing football, a few months after he announced his retirement.

In September 2021, Nhleko announced his retirement from his career spanning 21 years which began at Gege Happy Stars in 1999 and took him to Denver Sundowns, Black Leopards, Blackburn Rovers, FC Azziz (all in South Africa), Malanti Chiefs and then ended gracefully Mbabane Swallows.

He was appointed head of development at the club.

But it turns out Swallows who are currently occupying seventh position on the Eswatini MTN Premier League after 11 matches have turned to the well traveled 40-year-old.

“Okay a lot has been said. Retired not retired. So, I would like to say I still consider myself as Mbabane Swallows player and I guess Swallows considers me as their player too, hence a surprise return is on the cards,” Nhleko announced on his social media platforms.

“Am impatiently waiting for that moment after a year and half long of stagnant improvement in my soccer carrier? The manual of life in as far as a gift/talent is concerned says “No one will ever take away from you the talent that you were blessed with by God.

“One needs to trust that and forget people who want to change you. My blood will forever be RED, you will find my blood red and you will leave me… it will still be RED,” he said.

The 40-year-old is expected to make a return to the field at the beginning of February.
