Japanese star set for French switch

Liverpool have agreed to sell a Japanese star.

With the recent arrival of highly-rated striker Darwin Nunez from SL Benfica, the Reds are letting go of one of their strikers, with competition in the forward line heating up at Anfield.

Takumi Minamino is set to join French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the coming days, with both clubs already preparing paperwork for the deal – Liverpool will receive a €15m fee guaranteed and €3m add-ons, which will depend on performances.

The 27-year-old joined the Reds from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg in 2020 but struggled to break into the starting line-up with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, making it hard for him to break into the team.

In 55 outings in all competitions, the attacker scored 14 goals for the English club.

He also joined Southampton on loan in February 2021 and made 10 appearances before returning to Liverpool for the 2021/22 campaign.
