Kamara’s house nearly set on fire after Afcon penalty miss

Kei Kamara’s house in Sierra Leone was attacked by furious supporters after the Leone Stars’ hopes of reaching the next round of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) were dashed as they lost 1-0 to Equatorial Guinea on Thursday night.

Sierra Leone’s supporters were left heartbroken as the veteran striker missed a late penalty, which could have sealed their place in the knockout stage in Cameroon.

According to multiple reports, Police in Freetown were seen protecting the house of Kamara from getting destroyed by the angry fans.

The angry protestors were a hop, skip and jump away from Kamara’s house as they were planning to set it on fire before the police came to the rescue. The fans reportedly marched to Kamara’s house after the final whistle in the defeat against Equatorial Guinea.

Sierra Leone finished third in Group E with two points from three matches in their first appearance at Afcon in a quarter-century. And at the age of 37, Kamara made his Afcon debut in the 0-0 draw against Algeria in the opening game.

Kamara, who had a good run in his maiden Africa’s showpiece, is an experienced campaigner with 450 professional matches under his belt in different leagues around the world, including the English Premier League and Major League Soccer, where he is the league’s fifth all-time scorer.

He has also represented Sierra Leone 36 times with seven goals to his name.
