I’ll leave everything on the pitch, vows Kekana

Bafana Bafana’s new boy Grant Kekana has vowed that he will leave everything on the pitch if given his debut for the national team on Thursday night. The Mamelodi Sundowns defender is relishing his first national team call up as he is looking forward to start his new journey on a bright note.

The assignment is against Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the opening Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier at the multi-purpose Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat [9pm SA time]. Both teams will be ho to kickstart the campaign with a win.

Following an incredible treble-winning season with the Brazilians, Kekana was afforded his first call up by coach Hugo Broos.

“It’s my first call up ever; it surprised me, but I was happy to be called up. I’ve always wanted to represent my country, and I’ve been afforded the chance, so I’ll be looking to give it my all and leave everything on the field,” Kekana told SAFA media.

“I want to start, but you must prove yourself at training sessions. Hopefully, I can do that and add some positivity to the team’s success.”

The former SuperSport United defender revealed the mood at camp and how happy he was about how the other squad members welcomed him.

“The mood is good; I think the players are ready for tomorrow’s game. There haven’t been hiccups; the intensity has been good, and the effort the lads have put in is good. Everyone has been raising their hand; it’s going to be difficult on who will start. It’s good to see everyone is in good spirits, willing to push and represent the country.”

“Fortunately, some players that I’ve played with at my previous clubs made it easy for me in the team. It’s been good; I’m happy to reunite with some players I’ve played with previously, but the relationship is still there. My roommate is the defender of the season, Lyle Lakay, whom I play with at Sundowns, him being my roommate made it easy for me to be comfortable.”
