3 coaches who could replace John Maduka at Royal AM

Maritzburg United have confirmed the appointment of John Maduka as head coach after he parted ways with Royal AM earlier this week. Maduka quit Royal AM earlier this week.

The Malawian stayed on with the club when Shauwn Mkhize purchased Bloemfontein Celtic’s status, moving the club to Durban from the Free State.

He guided them to an unprecedented third-place finish, meaning they will play in the Caf Confederation Cup next season.

MaMkhize’s Royal AM have started engaging coaches who could replace Maduka ahead of the new season.
Pitso Mosimane’s former right-hand-man at Al Ahly Cavin Johnson has emerged as a front runner for the job.

Johnson has not coached any club since parting ways with Ahly in September last year. He comes with a wealth of experience, having been part of the technical team that guided the Cairo giants to Champions League success in 2020.

He will be itching to apply the knowledge he acquired working under Mosimane in Egypt.

Gavin Hunt is also in contention to replace Maduka, despite denying that he was in talks with the club.

The four-time league title winner is also appealing to Royal AM having led Kaizer Chiefs to the final of the Caf Champions League two seasons ago.

Hunt was axed by Chippa United in December and is available for the job.

Similarly, Owen Da Gama, who recently parted ways with Sekhukhune, is immediately available to take over.

He has been touted as a potential replacement as well as the KZN outfit look to move swiftly to appoint their new mentor.
