A make or break season for Ligendza

Siyabonga Ligendza faces the most important season of his career so far.

After suffering a leg break in 2021, the youngster managed to work his way back to full fitness at English Championship side Cardiff City.

Ligendza’s stock was on the rise before the unfortunate injury which happened while he was in South Africa preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics – the injury was a huge setback for a young striker who was on the verge of breaking into senior team football.

After pushing hard with the club’s medical team, the attacker finally returned to action towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign featuring in three of the reserve team’s league games, which was a big positive as he aims to break into the first team next season.

The lanky forward has scored over 60 goals for Cardiff’s youth teams in the past four seasons- including the 24 goals he netted in the 2017/18 campaign.

Last season, Cardiff awarded the South African with a two-year deal that will keep him at the Cardiff City Stadium until June 2023.

He has been at the Welsh club for the past 11 years and he is one of the best players to have come through the club’s development system in recent years.
