Banyana legend pens deal with JVW Girls

Former Banyana Banyana shot-stopper Thokozile Mndaweni has jumped ship from Croesus Ladies FC, who campaign in the Sasol League, to JVW Girls.

She joins the Bedfordview-based outfit as a player and goalkeeper coach. Mndaweni, in possession of a Fifa Goalkeeping coaching course attendance certificate, is an experienced campaigner with 89 appearances for Banyana.

At her new club, JVW, she will be competing for the number one jersey with Banyana international Kaylin Swart and Yolula Tsawe.

“This is one of the most amazing clubs in women’s football, and I feel privileged to be part of this team,” said Mndaweni.

“I can only hope to learn and grow from such a great environment. I am honoured to be joining JVW as I know many aspire to be here, and I am confident that it will be all hands on deck as we challenge for the Hollywoodbets Super League title.”

Mndaweni was formerly on the books of Moroka Swallows, UJ Ladies and Palace Super Falcons, where she won the Sasol League with the latter in 2010.

She walked away with the Sasol League National Championship Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

In the same year, she won a bronze medal with Banyana at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. She bettered that in the following edition of the tournament in Equatorial Guinea when she helped South Africa to second place.

Mndaweni was also part of the Banyana squad that played at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
