How much Banyana players will each pocket if they win 2022 AWCON

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan has confirmed that there will be a hefty reward if the women’s national team returns home with the coveted Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON).

Banyana Banyana players jet off to Morocco tonight to gear up for the AWCON.

Jordaan disclosed the players will each receive R400 000 if they win the 2022 AWCON tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco.

Africa’s top 12 women’s national teams will go head-to-head for the continent’s biggest women’s football competition starting on 02 July until 23 July.

SAFA President and the association’s CEO Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe addressed Banyana players ahead of the team’s departure tonight.

South Africa are drawn in Group C with debutants Burundi, neighbours Botswana and rivals Nigeria.

Desiree Ellis’ troops will take on the Super Falcons in their opening match of the competition on 4 July at Prince Moulay Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat.

The tournament doubles up as the African qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the top four teams at the AWCON will automatically qualify for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, two more teams will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs to contest for the final three FIFA Women’s World Cup spots.
