Chippa’s search for NMB win rages on after two years

Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies was left frustrated after their nil-all draw with Cape Town City on Wednesday in a league match as their search for the first home victory at the Nelson Mandela Bay continues.

Chippa recently claimed their first home win of the DStv Premiership season with a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC, but that match was played at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium last month.

“We haven’t won at this stadium [NMB] since 2020. A point at home that’s a bit of a struggle for us. We had the best chances, but we didn’t score. We’ll take the point; it’s better than getting nothing,” Lentjies said.

Despite the stalemate, the former Chilli Boys skipper was pleased with his team’s positive display.

“But the boys gave a good account of themselves. I’m very pleased with the performance. We can’t prepare much for the next game; it’s in a couple of days. We have to get the guys ready.”

The Gqeberha outfit, who sits 13th on the DStv Premiership with 27 points, will next face bottom-placed Baroka. They have 21 points, now with some glimpse of hope for surviving relegation after defeating Golden Arrows 1-0 on Wednesday.
