Double joy as Banyana goalie graduates at UWC

Recently crowned Best Goalkeeper of the Season, Regirl Ngobeni capped off a memorable term when she graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of the Western Cape on Wednesday.

Just last weekend, the Banyana Banyana shot-stopper was named the Best in between the sticks in the Hollywoodbets Super League annual awards ceremony.

She has been instrumental in helping the UWC Women’s Football team finish third in the Super League last campaign.

“I have been waiting for this moment, and it finally came. I’m so proud of myself for the things that I have achieved so far. Everything is going so well for me and I’m very happy about it,” said Ngobeni.

Riri, as she’s popularly known, shared her thoughts on keeping a good balance between sport and education, and the Banyana star led by example as she has been so good at keeping the balancing act.

“It’s never been an issue for me (to balance sport with academics) as I have always been a top performer in class while playing soccer,” she added.

“I’m presented with new challenges every day, but I always find ways to deal with them. I won’t lose focus when it comes to balancing my education and soccer responsibilities.”

Ngobeni, who described football as her religion noted that it was the beautiful game that opened university doors for her.

“I’m here because of football, and all my achievements are because of football,” she says in conclusion.
